MSUB Women’s Golf Second at CSU Pueblo Invitational Heading into Final Round

First Round Results

PUEBLO, Colo. – A four-hour rain delay played havoc with the 10-team field at the second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament at Colorado State Pueblo Monday.  The Montana State Billings women’s golf team sits in second place four strokes behind Mesa State College (342) heading into Tuesday’s final round.  MSUB recorded a 346 team score on the par 72, 6,000-yard Walking Sticks Golf Course.

“It was a tough day to play golf because of the weather,” head coach Shawn O’Brien said.  “I am proud of our girls for hanging in and playing one stroke at a time.  Tomorrow will be exciting to see how we and other teams play.  Any team has a shot at winning the tournament.  I like our chances.”

Western New Mexico currently is third, three strokes behind MSUB with a 349 score.  Adams State is fourth (352), followed by Nebraska-Kearney (358), Regis (364), Fort Hays State (374) and Chadron State (379) to round out the top eight.  Colorado Christian is ninth with a 380 score, followed by Colorado State Pueblo with a 442 score.

Adam State’s Kendall Martin leads the field with an 81, followed by Jessica Laurer of Colorado Christian with an 82.  MSUB’s Kalli Stanhope is fifth with an 84 and Erin Heaney and Liz Tikriti are tied for ninth each scoring an 86.  Amy Nordeen is tied for 19th after firing a 90 and Libby Rutz is tied for 24th after shooting a 92 to open the ThunderWolf Invitational, rounding out the Yellowjacket scoring.

The field is scheduled to complete the 36-hole tournament Tuesday.  Mesa State leads the Yellowjackets by one point in the conference standings after last week the teams finished 1-2 at the Grizzly Invitational hosted by Adams State.
