Yellowjacket Golf Adds Seven More for 2010
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings head men’s and women’s golf coach Shawn O’Brien announced Tuesday that seven players have committed to play golf for the Yellowjackets next season.
On the women’s side, Capri Ingram, BreAnna Cameron, Melissa Saken and Billings native, Kai Yamamoto. The men’s side features Bradley Harrelson, Jeffrey Dalton and Jake Lettman, while Billings native Mac Keating and Ryan Graham of Buffalo, Wyo., signed early.
“It is exciting to have Billings student-athletes join our team,” O’Brien said. “Anytime we can recruit in the community and state, it is a positive addition. Mac and Kai are great students academically, socially and athletically. They are a great addition to our team and program.”
Yamamoto prepped at Billings Senior where she was an academic all-state selection her junior and senior years. She played varsity for three years and she helped lead her team to a third place finish at state in 2009.
Cameron, a native of Whitefish, Mont., lettered all four years in golf and one in track. She was an all-state selection each year and placed ninth at state individually in 2006, eighth in 2007, second in 2008 and sixth in 2009. In addition, she helped lead her team to two state team titles in 2006 and 2007 and a runner-up finish in 2008.
She plans on majoring in athletic training.
Ingram hails from Livingston, Mont., where she attended Park Senior High School. There, she lettered all four years in golf, two in basketball and two in track. She finished second individually at state her junior year and first at divisionals. Her senior season, she finished second at divisionals and was an all-state selection as a junior and senior.
During her senior year, she finished first in four tournaments carding a low-round score of 73 at the PGA Sectional. She fired a 75 at the Riverside Invitational, 77 at Cottonwood Hills and a 78 at the Gallatin Valley Championship.
“I believe BreaAnna and Capri are two of the top golfers in the state of Montana this year,” O’Brien said. “BreAnna has had a great career at Whitefish High School and she is only going to get better. Capri is a joy to be around. She, as well will do great for us and both have a good opportunity to come in next fall and make a contribution to our team.”
Saken, a native of Peers, Alberta, Canada, prepped at Parkland Composite High School where she competed in numerous CJGA (Canada Junior Golf Association) tournaments. In 2009, she earned the CJGA Junior Girls Order of Merit and was selected to play on Team West for the Lipton Brisk Canada Cup in Toronto, Ontario. She also was selected by the PGA of Alberta to play in the Junior Masters in 2008 and 2009.
Harrelson, a native of Snoqualmie, Wash., prepped at Mount Si High School where he became the only player at Mount Si to compete all four years in the Washington State championships. As a freshman, had a 9-hole stroke average of 37.8 and was medalist in three of nine matches. He finished 27th of 80 players at state. As a sophomore, he finished 15th of 80 at state and earned medalist honors five times.
His junior year he helped lead his team to the state title and he finished ninth individually at state and earned medalist honors in six matches. As a senior he was named first team All-King County and is captain of his team. He qualified for the WIAA state tournament which will be held the last week of May.
“Bradley is one of the most polite individuals who has a very bright future at MSUB,” O’Brien said. “He has been playing very well this spring and we anticipate him coming in right away and making a contribution to our team. His experience of playing a variety of golf courses will be beneficial to our team.”
