Yellowjacket Women's Links Tied with Defending Region Champion in Lady Otter Invitational

Tournament Results

SEASIDE, Calif. –The Montana State Billings women's golf team currently is tied for 16th after the first round of the 2010 Lady Otter Invitational hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay. The Jackets fired a team score of 345 and are tied with Upper Iowa University heading into Tuesday's final round. California Baptist University leads the 19-team field with a 299 score on the par 73, 5810-yard Black Horse Golf Course.

"Our ladies hit the ball very well today," head women's golf coach Shawn O'Brien said. Our downfall was our putting.  We played much better as a team and individually on the back nine. I thought Erin (Heaney) fought very hard and she showed a lot of maturity shooting even par on the back nine after shooting a 47 on the front. I think if we can limit our three and four putts, we can have great success tomorrow.”"

The Lady Otters, currently ranked eighth nationally in the latest golfstat rankings are tied with NAIA-member, University of British Columbia, with a 302. Sonoma State is fourth (311) followed by Nebraska-Omaha (313) to round out the top five.

Individually, Cal State San Marco's Stephanie Cole fired the low score of the tournament, carding a 4-under 69 Monday. UBC's Vanessa Leon and Cal Baptist's Fredrika Winqvist are tied for second with a 2-under 71, while Victoria's Anne Balser and Chico State's Erin Spears are tied for fourth with a 1-under 72.

The Yellowjackets are tied with Central Region foe and defending region champion, Upper Iowa, for 16th.  The Jackets are led by Erin Heaney who carded a team-low round of 83 to open the tournament.  Amy Nordeen is tied for 58th after shooting an 84, while Kalli Stanhope is tied for 65th after firing an 85.  Libby Rutz is tied for 81st with a 93 and Elizabeth Tikriti is tied for 84th with a 94 in the 95-player field.

The final round begins tomorrow at 8:30 a.m., Pacific time with a shotgun start.
