Cross Country/Track Help Fight Alzheimer’s
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings cross country and track teams helped to fight Alzheimer’s disease at the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk/Run hosted by the Montana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association at Riverfront Park this past Sunday.
“We provided about 40 student-athletes from the cross country and track teams to assist with the event,” said head coach Dave Coppock. “I thought it was great for the team to do something together and do it for a great cause. We all were able to enjoy a nice day at Riverfront Park as a group.”
The event drew over 200 people who ran and walked their way around the park to help raise money to combat the disease. There was live music, water stops for the participants, snacks, prizes, and an auction during the event.
The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. This inspiring event calls on volunteers of all ages to become champions in the fight against Alzheimer’s, according to their website. The funds raised provide services, educational materials, programs and support for people with Alzheimer’s disease, their families, and caregivers.
Throughout the year, teams from MSUB will be involved in community service events just like the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk in order to give back to the community which supports the student-athletes on and off the site of competition.
The cross country team will be back on the course this Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Rocky Mountain Shootout in Boulder, Colorado, hosted by the University of Colorado, starting at 10 a.m.
