Cross Country Earns a Pair of Second Place Finishes
DICKINSON, N.D. – The Montana State Billings cross country team took part in the Dickinson State Invitational Friday afternoon with both squads earning second place finishes in the three team event.
The women’s team was led by senior Lisa Minnehan who had a strong race, finishing third overall in a time of 19:24. Minnehan was 19 seconds behind the winner, Jennifer Agnew, from the University of Mary. Mary Owen was second across the line for the Yellowjackets with a 10th place finish and a time of 20:36, four seconds ahead of teammate Mykel Ler in 11th (20:30).
Katie Thiel finished 16th overall in a time of 21:06, while fellow teammates Sarah Jackson and Malori Woodford followed closely with a 21:09 and 21:47 respectively. Natasha Fredrickson rounded out the runners for MSUB with a 23rd place finish in a time of 24:19.
On the men’s side, it was Daniel Lombardi leading the way for the Yellowjackets, finishing sixth overall with a 27:34. Tyson Vanderby and Ryan Blomback were the next two runners to cross the line in times of 28:13 and 28:18, good for ninth and 10th place.
Finishing 14th through 17th were a group of MSUB runners, Taylor Canfield led the group with a 28:39 followed by Daniel Hutchinson (28:43), John Buttelman (28:50) and Tucker Shuler (29:43). Rounding out the men’s team was Kelley Miller, finishing in a time of 32:30.
On the women’s side, the team title was won by the University of Mary with 18 points, while the men’s title was won by Dickinson State with 22 points. The MSUB team totals were 51 points for the women and 47 for the men.
The Yellowjacket runners will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 3, as they travel to Boulder, Colo. for the Rocky Mountain Shootout hosted by the University of Colorado. All the action will start at 10 a.m. local time.
