Yellowjacket Baseball Adds Two
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings baseball program announce the addition of Rhett Morgan and Zachary Smith for the 2010-2011 season. Morgan is a native of Greeley, Colo., while Smith is the younger brother of current Yellowjacket, Archie Smith, and is from Palmyra, Neb.
Morgan, a 6-1, 215-pound, right-hander, who is a multiple position player and played his last two seasons at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colo. There, he saw action in the outfield, first base and on the mound.
He had a prolific high school career as he was a two-time all-state selection at Northridge High School and was the Class 4A Player of the Year in 2006. As a senior, he hit .430 with 29 RBI’s, five doubles, two triples and he slugged eight home runs. On the bump he was equally impressive as he had a 1.23 ERA with an 8-1 record as he fanned 62 and walked just 22.
Morgan helped lead his high school team to four district championships, two state final four appearances and one third-place finish in 2006.
Smith is a 6-1, 170-pound infielder/pitcher who played his last two seasons at Independence Community College in Independence, Kan., and prepped at Lincoln East High School in Lincoln, Neb.
In high school, Smith was an all-state selection in 2008, academic all-state in 2007 and 2008 and earned the Don Henry Award for the most outstanding Spartan baseball player in 2008.
Smith hit .355 as a senior, with 12 RBI’s, one home run and 27 hits. On the mound, he was 6-1 with a 1.73 ERA in eight starts with five complete games. He fanned 43 in 131 innings pitched. Smith played three sports in high school, baseball, basketball and football.
