Zukaitis Named GNAC Co-Player of the Week
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings baseball junior infielder, Kevin Zukaitis, was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. He shares the honor with Kyle Boe of Western Oregon. Zukaitis helped lead the Yellowjackets to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Bemidji State Saturday in the regular season home finale. It was the first doubleheader sweep for the Yellowjackets this season.
Zukaitis, a native of Omaha, Neb., played at Truman State (Mo.) prior to transferring to MSUB this year. He had an impressive two games Saturday as he hit a team-high .625 for the twin bill on 5 of 8 with three runs scored, one double and one home run. He tallied nine total bases and had a slugging percentage of 1.125. In addition, he had one sacrifice bunt and had 14 putouts with two assists at first base and no errors.
For the season, Zukaitis is hitting a team-best .404 in 20 games played with 12 starts. He has 19 hits, four doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs on the year. Zukaitis is slugging a team-high .681 and has a .481 on-base percentage. From the field, he has made 88 of 89 chances this season with 77 putouts and 11 assists.
Zukaitis is the fourth Yellowjacket to earn Player or Pitcher of the Week honors this season, as Archie Smith, Kody Kennedy and Brian Dukart are the other three.
MSUB concludes the regular season as it travels to Central Washington for a four-game series beginning Friday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. The series is scheduled to conclude Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.
