Kennedy Earns GNAC Pitcher of the Week Honors
BILLINGS, Mont. – For the second week in a row, the Montana State Billings baseball team had a player earn Great Northwest Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. Kody Kennedy was tabbed the conference’s weekly best, the conference office announced Monday.
Kennedy, a 5-10, junior, left-handed pitcher from Butte, Mont., had a dominating performance in a 1-0 victory at Saint Martin’s over the weekend as he struck out 13 batters in six innings and allowed just two hits before the game was suspended Saturday because of darkness. Kennedy struck out eight of the first 11 SMU batters in the game. Teammate, Archie Smith, pitched the seventh inning on Sunday added a strikeout for a season-high 14 strikeouts by the Yellowjackets in the victory.
Smith was named GNAC Pitcher of the Week last week after a dominating one-hitter in a 2-1 victory at Dixie State, Mar. 1.
The Yellowjackets return to the road this week at GNAC preseason conference favorite, Western Oregon, with a pair of doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. Pacific time. MSUB is scheduled to open the home schedule Fri., Mar. 26 at 3 p.m. versus conference rival Central Washington at Dehler Park.
