ST. GEORGE, Utah – The road continued to be unkind for the Montana State Billings baseball team as it dropped a doubleheader at Dixie State College Sunday afternoon.  The Red Storm won the opener, 8-1 and the nightcap 15-3.  The two teams will conclude the four game set Monday at 12 p.m.

The Red Storm (5-5) pounded out 23 runs on 21 hits in the twin bill.  The Yellowjackets (0-6) scored four runs on 16 hits in the two games.  Jonathon Crews went 3 for 3 with a run scored to lead the Yellowjacket attack.  Ty Sobieraj, Matt Schoonover and Jeff Ridgeway each tallied two hits.

In the opener, the Red Storm plated five runs in the bottom of the third as they loaded the bases on a pair of hit batsmen and a walk.  They scored five runs on just one hit.  Dixie State added another run in the fourth off a pair of Yellowjacket miscues courtesy of a RBI single and the unearned run for a 6-0 lead.

The Jackets got on the board in the fifth on a Jordan Kessler RBI single for a 6-1 lead.  DSC added a run in the bottom of the fifth and the sixth for an 8-1 score.  Ridgeway went 2 for 4 for the Yellowjackets, while Matt Schoonover was 2 for 3 to lead the attack.

Jacob Vulk (0-1) took the loss pitching two innings as he allowed one hit, five earned runs, three walks and three strikeouts. MSUB outhit the Red Storm 9-7 in the opener. 

In the nightcap, the Yellowjackets bounced right back and took the lead in the top of the first courtesy of a Red Storm error as Brian Dukart reached on a single and scored on a Chris Round single.

The lead was short lived, however, as DSC plated five runs in the first highlighted by a two run home run and a two run double for a 5-1 lead.  The flood gates opened in the fourth inning as DSC plated nine more runs for a 14-1 lead.  The Red Storm added a run in the sixth.

The Yellowjackets continued to fight and loaded the bases on a walk and two singles in the seventh.  Chris Stine scored the second run of the game as he grounded out to third, followed by another run off the bat of Ridgeway for a 15-3 score.

Crews went 3 for 3 in the game to lead the way, while Justin Jensen led the way for Dixie State going 3 for 4 from the plate with two runs scored and four RBI.
