SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana College scored two goals in the first five minutes and four first half goals en route to a 4-0 victory over Montana State Billings, Sunday afternoon.  With the loss, the Yellowjackets fall to 3-2 on the year, while Augustana improves to 2-1-1.

“I was very disappointed in the way we came out against a very good Augustana team,” head coach Don Trentham said.  “When you give a team eight corners, they are eventually going to score one and today they scored three.  I do give Augustana a lot of credit for how they played today and took advantage of their corner kick opportunities.

The Vikings got off to a hot start as Lisa Shirk scored her second goal of the season just under three minutes in.  Moments later, Kate Timmons scored on a pass from Stephanie Goos just over five minutes in for a quick 2-0 lead.

In the 30th minute, the Vikings found the back of the net again as Katie Shandri scored off a rebounded ball and Raelyn Walczak had the assist.  Timmons added her second goal in the 39th minute and scored the third goal off a corner kick for a commanding 4-0 lead.

Augustana had 13 shots in the first half, while MSUB fired 10.  Yellowjacket goalkeeper, Jordan Fenwick, had two saves and four goals against in the opening half.

The Yellowjackets came out with more intensity in the second half and out-shot Augustana 13-4 in the period, but were unable to get anything across.  Mikhaila Baltes had eight saves in the second half alone for Augustana as MSUB out-shot AC 23-17 and 12-7 on goal for the game.  Ali Gamberg and Chelsea Libby each had four shots for the Jackets.

“We definitely played better in the second half,” Trentham said.  “Anytime you go on the road and you can get a win it is a positive thing.  We definitely have a lot to work on this week to get prepared for the University of Mary.”

MSUB returns home Saturday to begin a six game home stand.  The Jackets play host to the University of Mary, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m., at the MSUB Soccer Field.
