Yellowjacket Soccer Teams Earn NSCAA Team Academic Award
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings men’s and women’s soccer teams earned more academic honors as they both earned the NSCAA Team Academic Award. The Yellowjackets were one of 59 schools to have both the men’s and women’s soccer programs to have team grade point averages over 3.0 last season. Seattle Pacific was the only other Great Northwest Athletic Conference school to have both teams honored.
A total of 363 soccer teams posted a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher, including 206 women’s teams and 103 men’s teams.
On the men’s side, the Yellowjackets had a team GPA of 3.44 which was the third highest GPA of all 103 men’s teams who earned the award. Only Amherst College and Case Western Reserve (3.48) had a better GPA. Seattle Pacific was the only other GNAC team to carry a GPA higher than 3.0 with a 3.25 average.
“We are building an excellent Men’s Soccer program at MSUB both on the field and in the classroom,” men’s soccer head coach Dan McNally said. “I take great pride in my student athletes having success in the classroom.”
On the women’s side, the Yellowjackets had a team grade point average of 3.37 which was one-one hundredth of a point behind Seattle Pacific. Central Washington also earned the award with a 3.05 GPA. CWU does not field men’s soccer.
“I am very proud of our players for receiving this award for the seventh-straight year,” women’s soccer head coach Don Trentham said. “All the players put a tremendous amount of time and effort into their studies, so it is great to see the NSCAA and adidas recognize them for their success in the classroom.”
