Gress Named 2008 NSCAA/adidas Division II All-West Region Third Team
BILLINGS, Mont. – Senior defender, Sara Gress, added more postseason accolades as she was named to the 2008 NSCAA/adidas Division II All-West Region third team Wednesday.
Gress, a native of Boise, Idaho, was a co-captain for the Yellowjackets this season and helped lead the team to a 10-10 record. Gress anchored a defense that forced five shutouts and only allowed three or more goals five times this season. She was the only Yellowjacket to play every minute this season – a total of 1831 minutes and was one of five Yellowjackets to play and start all 20 games.
She scored two goals on the year, including one game winner in a 2-1 victory at Saint Martin’s on Oct. 25. She tallied 10 shots and seven on goal. She was a first team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection this season as well as being one of eight Yellowjackets named to the Academic all-conference team. Gress will go down in the school annals as the all-time leader in games played and games started at 76 and 75, respectively.
On the 33-member West Region Team, there were 14 athletes from GNAC schools, including seven on the first team. Along with Gress, there were four other athletes named to the third team, including Seattle Pacific goalkeeper, Maddie Dickinson, Lynde Clarke of Central Washington, Jill Jensen of Saint Martin’s and Molly Shannon of Western Washington. Seattle Pacific won the Division II National Championship.
