Yellowjackets Fourth After First Round of Quality Inn Maverick Invitational

Grand Junction, Colo. – Fresh off its tournament victory at Chadron State, the Montana State Billings women’s golf team sits in fourth place after the first round of the Quality Inn Maverick Invitational Monday. In the second Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournament of the year, Fort Hays State (331) leads after the first round, followed by Western New Mexico (333), host Mesa State (337) and the Yellowjackets at 345.
“The scoring was high today due to gusty winds,” head coach Kevin Woodin said. “I was pretty pleased with the way we played and I think we can do better tomorrow.”
Fort Hays’ Kiley Johansen leads the 10-team field with an 80, followed by a tie between Amand Bjork and Britanny Gose-DeMent from Western New Mexico and Jennifer Hilts from Mesa State who all carded an 82 and tied for second. MSUB’s Kalli Stanhope is in the clubhouse tied for fifth with an 83.
MSUB’s Amy Nordeen is tied for 20th after firing an 87 as is Lindsay Erickson. Erin Heaney is 25th after carding an 88 and Libby Rutz is 26th after an 89 on Monday.
The field will play another 18 holes tomorrow morning on the par 71, 5951-yard course.
