Women’s Links Head to RMAC Championship
BUCKEYE, Ariz. – The Montana State Billings women’s golf team’s quest for a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship begins Saturday at the RMAC Championship, held at the Sundance Golf Club in Buckeye, Ariz.
The Yellowjackets and Fort Hays State are tied for the RMAC lead after three tournaments this season. MSUB won the Chadron State Tournament last fall and has a second place and a third place finish in the other two RMAC Tournaments.
In addition to the 10 RMAC schools, Upper Iowa, Southwest Minnesota State and St. Cloud State also will be participating as Central Region teams in the tournament this weekend. The field includes seven teams ranked in the latest NCAA Division II Central Region Poll.
Upper Iowa is the top ranked team in the region, followed by Mesa State at third and Fort Hays State is fifth. The Yellowjackets are eighth for the second week in a row, followed by Western New Mexico at ninth, SW Minnesota State at 10th and Adams State at 12th.
Leading the way for the Yellowjackets this season is freshman Kalli Stanhope who has a team-best 80.2 stroke average through 12 rounds this season. In RMAC play, she is tied for fifth in the league at 82.8. Amy Nordeen is fourth in league play in scoring at an 82.5 clip. Lindsay Erickson is tied for 11th at 83.8. RMAC play consisted of three tournaments and six rounds.
As a team, the Yellowjackets have the third-best team stroke average in the league at 335.8. Fort Hays State leads the way at 332.7, followed by Mesa State at 335.7 in league play. MSUB owns the best round of the season in the RMAC Tournaments with a 320 at the Chadron State Tournament (Sept. 16).
