Yellowjacket Women’s Golf Tied for Fourth after First Round of RMAC Championships

BUCKEYE, Ariz. – The Montana State Billings women’s golf teams is tied for fourth after the first round of the 2009 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship on the par 72, 5,828-yard Sundance Golf Club. The Yellowjackets fired a team score of 345 and are tied with Mesa State College heading into tomorrow’s final round. Upper Iowa leads the way with a 318 score.
Western New Mexico is second with a 325 score, followed by Fort Hays State at 332. Fort Hays State’s, Kelsie Paul, led the way individually with a 77, followed by three players from Upper Iowa in the top five. MSUB’s Amy Nordeen also is in the top five and tied for fifth after carding an 80 to open the tournament.
Following Nordeen, Erin Heaney is tied for 25th with an 87, followed by Kalli Stanhope who carded an 89 and is tied for 29th with teammate Libby Rutz. Lindsay Erickson is tied for 34th with a 91 in the 65-player field.
Upper Iowa, Southwest Minnesota State (6th after round one) and St. Cloud State (10th) all joined the 10-member RMAC for the championship. Upper Iowa leads the Central Region rankings. MSUB currently is eighth in the Central Region.
The Yellowjackets and Fort Hays State entered the tournament this weekend tied for first in the RMAC standings with 24 points each.
