FINDLAY, Ohio – Montana State Billings freshman Kalli Stanhope’s impressive inaugural campaign came to an end Saturday in the fourth and final round of the 2009 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship. Stanhope finished tied for 70th as she carded an 87 to complete the 72-hole event with a 348 score on the par 72, 6,219-yard Findlay Golf and Country Club course.
Nova Southeastern won the team championship while University of Indianapolis’ Lyndsay McBride took home the individual honors edging Nova Southeastern’s Sandra Changkila and Pfeiffer’s Charlene Reid by two strokes. McBride carded an impressive 10-over 298 score for the tournament.
"Even though I didn’t golf as well as I had hoped, I met and played with some of the best golfers in the country,” Stanhope said. “It was a great experience. I may never get back, but I know how lucky I was to make it this year."
Grand Valley State finished second, 15 strokes behind Nova Southeastern (1230) in the team standings. Rollins College and Indianapolis finished tied for third three strokes behind Grand Valley State (1248) and Florida Southern finished fifth with a 1258 score.
Stanhope opened the fourth round with two bogeys on 10 and 11, but picked up a birdie on No. 18 to give her some momentum heading into the final nine holes. However, double bogeys on Nos. 2, 4 and 5 pushed her to 12-over for the day as she finished 15-over in the fourth round and 60-over for the tournament.
She opened the tournament with an 85 on Wednesday and followed with a 91 and an 85 on Friday as Thursday’s competition was rained out. No other Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women’s golfer made it to the NCAA Championships this season.
