Yellowjackets Fifth After First Round of Colorado Christian Invitational
Day One Results
DENVER – The Montana State Billings women’s golf team sits in fifth place after the first round of the 2008 Colorado Christian Invitational. The Yellowjackets had a team score of 347 in the first round, 11 strokes behind leader, Fort Hays State.
“We didn’t play very well today,” head coach Kevin Woodin said. “We struggled on the greens and had a ton of three puts. The good news is, we can improve a lot tomorrow. In previous tournaments this season, we have improved on the second day so I hope that trend continues tomorrow.”
Mesa State is second with a 337 score, followed by Western New Mexico (341) and Adams State (346) is fourth in the 10-team field.
Individually, Kalli Stanhope led the way in the first round for MSUB as she carded an 85. Amy Nordeen was right behind with an 86, followed by Lindsay Erickson with an 87. Libby Rutz fired an 89 in the opening round and Erin Heaney had a 104. The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
This is the third of four Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tournaments. MSUB has a slim, one-point (17-16) lead over Fort Hays State in the regular season standings heading into this week’s tournament. The fourth and final RMAC tournament is scheduled for April 18-19, 2009, in Phoenix, Arizona.
