WBCA Recognizes Yellowjackets’ Success in
the Classroom
BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings
women’s basketball team not only excelled on the basketball
court this season, but also in the classroom as it was
recognized Monday as having one of the top 25 team grade point
averages in Division II as announced by the WBCA (Women’s
Basketball Coaches Association).
“I am very
proud of our women’s basketball team for their hard work in the
classroom during the 2007-2008 academic year,” head women’s
basketball coach Kevin Woodin said. “It is a great honor
to be ranked in the top 25 academic teams in the nation. I feel
very fortunate to work with such quality student-athletes on a
daily basis.”
The Yellowjackets finished 21st in all of
Division II with a team GPA of 3.405. MSUB was one of
three Great Northwest Athletic Conference schools to be honored
as Saint Martin’s and Seattle Pacific also were ranked in the
top 25. The University of South Dakota took the top spot
in Division II with a 3.649 average.
This award, given in
NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and
Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the
nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the
entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member
head coaches.
Founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association
