Jackets Rally to Wash Away the Seawolves

BILLINGS, Mont. – It wasn’t pretty at times but a win is a win. Montana State University Billings rallied for a 3-1 (18-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-22) win over Alaska Anchorage, Monday night. It was the third straight win over the Seawolves for MSUB. The Yellowjackets hit the road to take on Saint Martin’s, Thursday, Oct. 9. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
“I’m proud of the girls,” said head coach Dana Cordova. “We didn’t play very consistenly tonight. However, they refused to quit and kept battling. Through that effort, we put ourselves in position to win.”
Alaska Anchorage took the opening game 25-18 and the MSUB returned the favor in game two. In game three, Rhea Cardwell slammed the ball home to put the Seawolves one point away from winning, 24-22. Devon Crotteau came up with a crushing kill and then Hillary Morrison and Jessica Lechner came up with three straight blocks to end the game.
Game four was the game to end all runs. The Yellowjackets jumped up to a 14-9 lead and looked like they were on their way to victory. But UAA came back with a 13-3 run to quiet the noisy Jacket crowd. Down 22-17, Morrison electrified the crowd by serving up eight straight points to give the win to MSUB.
For Montana State Billings (5-15, 2-5 GNAC) Morrison had a stellar night with a career-high 47 assists, served up two aces and had five total blocks including two solo blocks. Crotteau had 17 kills, two service aces and 12 digs while Jennifer Boe had 14 kills and 10 digs. Lechner had a solid night at the net with five total blocks.
For Alaska Anchorage (11-8, 3-3 GNAC), Rachel Kidwell had 15 kills, four service aces and 11 digs and Cardwell had 15 kills and 13 digs.
