BILLINGS, Mont. – No. 12 Western Washington remained in the hunt for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-7) win over Montana State Billings, Thursday night. The Yellowjackets remain home, Saturday, Oct. 25, taking on Central Washington. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
In the opening game, the teams battled back-and-forth. MSUB forced the Vikings into an attack error which made it 15-12, WWU. Western Washington then went on a 10-4 run to close out the game. In game two, Ashley Welborn crushed the ball down the line to make it 22-18, WWU. The Jackets then saw the Vikings score three straight points. In the third game, Jessica Lechner just smashed the ball down the middle of the court to make it 2-2. The Vikings scored nine straight points to effectively end the contest.
For Montana State Billings (5-19, 2-8 GNAC), Jennifer Boe had nine digs, Jessica Lechner hit .364 while Ashley Welborn hit .571. Zahrah Zimmerer saw her first action of the season and collected three digs within the first five minutes she was on the floor.
For Western Washington (15-2, 7-2 GNAC), Megan Amundson had 12 kills and 10 digs, Allison Gotz had 14 digs and Kari Rice had 34 assists.
