Montana State Billings Falls Twice

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Montana State University Billings started out the 2008 volleyball season on a down note Friday. MSUB went 0-2 at the 2008 Seawolf Spike Tournament, falling 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-13) to No. 25 Chico State and 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-12) to Sonoma State. The Yellowjackets will look to rebound, Saturday morning, as they take on San Francisco State. The match is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
In the opening match, Chico State jumped out to a 20-11 lead in game one. Montana State Billings then reeled off five straight points to close the gap to 20-16. The Wildcats turned things around to score five straight points to take the game. In the second game, Melissa Porter drove the ball in to make it 18-17, Chico. CSU went on a 7-1 run to close game two and was never headed in game three.
For MSUB, Devon Crotteau led the attack with nine kills and 10 digs while Jill Trabing contributed 16 digs.
For Chico State (1-0), Lindsay Macias had 10 kills and five blocks, Abbey Ranzau had 11 digs and Megan Cape added 10 digs.
In the nightcap, Sonoma State (2-0) used strong hitting and blocking to keep Montana State Billings from getting started right from the get-go. For the Seawolves, Kristy Sather had nine kills and Rikki Buckshnis had five blocks.
For the Yellowjackets, Crotteau had six kills, Trabing collected 13 digs and Jennifer Boe came away with 11 digs.
