Yellowjackets Are Set to Defend the Hive This Week

THIS WEEK: Montana State Billings returns to the friendly confines of Alterowitz Gym for five games. The Yellowjackets open the GNAC season, Thursday, Sept. 11 against Alaska Fairbanks. On Friday and Saturday, the 12th and 13th, MSUB is hosting the MSUB Tournament. A complete schedule of all games can be found on the web site.

ALASKA FAIRBANKS: The Nanooks are off to a 3-2 start. Both of their losses have come to top 25 ranked teams. Fairbanks leads the series 17-15.

HAWAII-HILO: The Vulcans are 6-2 following a 3-1 win over Colorado School of Mines on Sept. 8. Josimara Pinheiro leads the squad with 3.42 kills per game while Mary Claire Bolo is hitting .272. Hilo leads the series 8-7.

NORTHERN STATE: The Wolves went 4-0 to win the Las Vegas Tournament, Sept. 4-5. Kelsey Aden leads the charge with 3.69 kills per game and a .227 winning percentage. This is the second meeting between the two schools. NSU beat the Jackets on Sept. 5, 1997.

NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR: The Argonauts are off to an 0-8 start. It has been a tough road as four of their opponents were ranked among the top 25 in the country. Shauna Foland leads the defense with 4.57 digs per game. This is the first meeting between the two schools.

UNIV. OF MARY: The Marauders are currently 1-7 on the season. Amanda Hennessy is averaging 3.23 kills a game while Kendra Hobbs has 4.42 digs a game. The Yellowjackets lead the series 2-0.

LAST WEEK: The Yellowjackets went 1-3 at the Fort Lewis College Tournament, Sept. 5-6, in Durango, Colo. They lost 3-0 to Palm Beach Atlantic and Fort Lewis on the fifth. On the sixth, MSUB fell 3-0 to Abilene Christian and then came from behind to beat Dixie State 3-2. The Jackets were down 2-1 and fought off match point twice before winning the fourth game and then went on to win the fifth and deciding game.
