Jackets Get Turned Away

Ellensburg, Wash. – Central Washington had all the answers as they beat Montana State University Billings 3-0 (25-8, 25-20, 25-9) Thursday night. This was the GNAC opener for CWU and the second league match for the Jackets. MSUB remains on the road, Saturday, Sept. 20, taking on No. 9 Western Washington. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
The Wildcats jumped to an 11-3 lead in the first game and never allowed the Yellowjackets to get on track. In the second game, both teams threw everything but the kitchen sink at each other. The teams battled back-and-forth and Ashley Welborn smashed one off the CWU blocker to knot the score at 17-17. Central Washington then came back with five straight points and after that, the two squads just traded points. In the final game, Jennifer Boe fired up back-to-back kills to make it 11-7, CWU. The Wildcats scored six straight points to effectively end the match.
For Montana State Billings (0-2 GNAC, 2-12), Boe led the attack with nine kills while Jill Trabing collected 12 digs.
For Central Washington (1-0 GNAC, 9-4), Rachael Schurman had 12 kills and hit .429 and Erin Norris served up five aces.
