Meet Results

SPEARFISH, S.D. –  Montana State Billings had a record setting track day at the Black Hills State Fall Classic,Wednesday evening.  A total of 11 school records were broken and 32 additions to the top 10 were recorded.  The Yellowjackets are off until Jan. 16, when they travel to Pocatello, Idaho to compete in the Bengal Shootout.

For the men, MSUB came away with first place performances from Chase Berg (56.53 - 400M Dash), Nick Kesler (23.14 - 200M Dash) and Nathan Satran (12-6 – Pole Vault).  Satran set a school record in the vault and Kesler not only broke the school record but improved his career best by 81/100th of a second.  The Jackets had 19 additions to the top 10 list.

School records were also set by Nathan Diede in the 55M Dash (06.94) and Deshawn Lewis in the Triple Jump (40-11).  MSUB has two best marks in the GNAC, Berg in the 400 and Diede in the 55.  Also ranking among the top 5 in the conference are Kesler (200 – 5th), Lewis (Triple Jump – 5th), Daniel Lombardi (3000 – 5th – 9:34.61), Kelley Miller (800 – 5th – 2:11.90), Noah Vallincourt (55M Dash – 2nd – 6.96) and Cam Weist (400 – 2nd – 56.63).

For the women, it was almost a perfect performance as they broke school record in seven of the nine events they competed in.  A big highlight was Justine Simmons winning the 55 (7.57) and 200M (26.81) Dashes with school record performances.  Her 55 time is the fastest in the GNAC and she broke the school record in the 200 by 1.38 seconds.

Simmons also keyed the Yellowjackets to finishing 1-2-3 in both events, the first sweep in school history.  Erika Halle was second in both events with the second fastest times in school history while Britney Derhak was third.

Sarah Jackson ran 2:22.44 to win the 800 by 10/100th of a second over Shelli Scheffler (Black Hills State).  She broke her own school record and it was the second fastest time in the GNAC.  Cassie Holm ran 9.36 to finish second and break her school record in the 55M Hurdles.  Whitney Mickelsen set the school record in the 3000 at 12:03.17.

Courtney Zappe was a double-school record breaker in the 20-LB Weight (43-1.50) and the Shot Put (43-10.50).  Both of her throws are currently ranked 2nd among GNAC competitors. Zappe also provisionally qualified for NCAA nationals in the shot. Her put was third best in GNAC history.  MSUB had a total of 13 additions to the top 10 list.

“I’m pleased with the results,” said head coach Dave Coppock.  “This is a good way to start the season.  I thought our female sprinters did very well.  Justine just had a monster day.  Noah and Nick ran well in the 200.  I’m really looking forward to the improvements we can make as the season moves along.”
