BOZEMAN, Mont. –  Montana State Billings got a blackjack at the MSU Open Friday night.  The Yellowjackets saw 21 additions to the Top 10 list as well as seven school records.  MSUB is off until Feb. 6-7 when it competes at the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho.

For the men, Nick Kessler had a solid meet setting school records in the 55 and 200M dashes.  His time of 6.72 in the 55 is the fastest time in the GNAC while his mark of 23.11 in the 200 ranks fifth.

Jade Haynie had a strong performance in the throwing events.  He broke his own school record in the 35-LB weight with a toss of 36-7.5.  Haynie improved his career PR in the shot put by over seven feet with a toss of 39-2.50.  That was the second longest put in MSUB history.

The Jackets got Top 5 finishes from Alex Reber in the triple jump (4th – 40-9.75) and the 1600M relay team of Chase Berg, Deshawn Lewis, Nathan Diede and James Hopkins (5th – 3:39.08).  MSUB had 14 additions to the Top 10 list.

For the women, three school records were toppled.  Cassie Holm ran the fastest 55M hurdle time at 9.29 while Lisa Minnehan broke the 3000 record by over 19 seconds (11:43.72).  The 1600M relay squad of Erika Halle, Holm, Sarah Jackson and Malori Woodford ran 4:13.73 to place fifth.

In addition, Justine Simmons tied her own school record in the 200 at 26.81.  Holm’s time in the 55 hurdles is the fastest time in the GNAC.  MSUB had seven additions to its Top 10 list.

Two Yellowjackets finished among the top five.  Sarah Jackson ran 2:24.63 to place fifth in the 800.  Alexi Halvorson threw 36-9.75 to finish fifth in the shot put.

“I’m pleased with our performance,” said head coach Dave Coppock.  “We competed much better this week than the week before.  Nick had a really strong meet in the sprints.  Our middle distance kids performed well.  I felt the relays both had solid efforts.  Our sprinters ran strong as a whole.”
