Records Fall at GNAC Championship

NAMPA, Idaho – Montana State Billings broke some more school records at the GNAC Indoor Championship, Saturday afternoon. The Yellowjackets set nine school records and had 22 additions to the top 10 list. MSUB has concluded the 2009 indoor season.
For the men, Western Oregon scored 169 points to successfully defend its team title. Western Washington was second with 135 points while Central Washington took third with 28 points. Montana State Billings scored eight points to finish seventh of seven teams.
The Yellowjackets picked up a pair of fifth place finishes in the 1600M and Distance Medley relays for their points. Setting school records were Jade Haynie in the 35-LB weight (39-8), Nick Kessler in the 200M dash (22.98) and Tyson Vanderby in the 800 (2:03.08).
Four other MSUB athletes cracked the top 10 in school history. They were Nathan Diede (200), James Hopkins (400M dash), Daniel Lombardi (Mile) and Noah Vallincourt (60M dash).
For the women, Seattle Pacific scored 181 points to win their sixth title in the sixth year of the meet. Western Washington was second with 137.50 points while Northwest Nazarene placed third with 105.33 points. MSUB scored 14 points to place sixth of seven teams.
The Yellowjackets had three individuals qualify for the finals. Hillary Gourneau threw the shot put 38-2.75 to place fifth, the highest individual finish for an MSUB athlete. Sarah Jackson ran 2:17.31 to finish sixth in the 800. She broke the school record by nearly three seconds and missed the NCAA Provisional mark by 31/100th of a second.
Rounding out the individual scorers was Kacie Vanderloos, who was seventh in the shot put. MSUB was seventh in the 1600M relay and the Distance Medley relay squad of Mykel Ler, Sarah Jackson, Justine Simons and Katie Thiel were sixth with a school record time of 13:45.19.
Erika Halle set school records in the 400 (1:01.34) and the long jump (16-1). School records were also set by Cassie Holm in the 60M hurdles (9.87) and Simons in the 60M dash (8.20). Montana State Billings had a total of 15 additions to the top 10 list.
