BILLINGS, Mont. - Montana State Billings entered rare territory with a ranking of fourth in the NCAA Division II West Region Poll for March 25. This is just the fourth time in school history and the first since May 4, 2005 that the Yellowjackets have cracked the top four in the region. MSUB also is back in the national rankings for the second time this season at No. 30.
Humboldt State, the defending West regional champion, was picked as the number one team in the region. Ranking second and third were Hawaii Pacific and Dixie State, respectively. Completing the top five in fifth place was Sonoma State, who lost 2-1 to MSUB on Feb. 8.
The remaining ranked teams were Cal State Stanislaus (6th), Grand Canyon (7th), UC San Diego (8th), Central Washington (9th) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (10th). MSUB has faced three of those squads this season. The Jackets lost 7-5 to Grand Canyon on Feb. 15 and are 3-0 this season against Dominguez Hills. MSUB is 2-3 against Central Washington with four games against the Wildcats remaining.
