Yellowjackets and Vikings Set to Clash
BILLINGS, Mont. - The top two softball programs in the GNAC will do battle, Friday and Saturday, Mar. 6-7 in Bellingham, Wash. Western Washington (5-1 GNAC, 5-1) and Montana State Billings (6-2 GNAC, 13-7) are currently 1-2 respectively in the standings. Both days are set to start at 1:00 p.m.
The Yellowjackets are riding a six game winning streak following four wins over Saint Martin’s last weekend. The top two guns offensively are Steph Gosselin and Terina Stacks. Gosselin has three doubles and six home runs, has scored 17 runs, driven in 20 runs, has a slugging percentage of .688 while hitting .359. Stacks has four doubles and two home runs, has scored 12 runs, driven in 16 runs and is hitting .328.
As a team, the Yellowjackets are batting .286 while scoring 5.5 runs a game and giving up three per game. IN GNAC action, MSUB is batting .320 while scoring seven runs a game and surrendering 2.7 per contest.
On the mound, Lisa Moore is 3-0 with a 1.46 ERA. Rebekah Tsatsa is 3-4 with a 2.09 ERA and leads the team with 51 strikeouts. Kasie Conder is 4-2 while Josie Grotbo is 3-1.
Western Washington is currently leading the GNAC by a game over the Yellowjackets. The Vikings only loss was 3-2 to Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 20. The top two hitters are Meghan Flehm and Michelle Wrigley.
Flehm has a double and two home runs, has scored five runs and driven in 14 runs, has a slugging percentage of .944 and is batting .556. Wrigley has scored nine runs, driven in three runs, has a slugging percentage of .727 and is batting .545.
On the mound, WWU has a team ERA of 1.52. Sarah McEnroe is 3-1 with a 0.97 ERA while Jessie Rosencrants is 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA.
Last year, the two split the eight games against each other. In Bellingham, Mar. 6-7, the Vikings won three of the four games. The Yellowjackets returned the favor in Billings on Apr. 26-27 by winning three out of four.
