Charles Named Co-Player of the Week
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings junior forward, Sam Charles, was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. Charles shares the honor with Alex Mangeac of Northwest Nazarene.
Charles scored two historic goals this past week as the Yellowjackets went 1-1 versus nationally ranked teams. Charles had the only goal for the Jackets in a 2-1 loss to then-No. 7 Metro State last Monday. With the goal, Charles broke the school record for goals in a career with his 28th score and broke the school record for points in a career with his 62nd point.
On Friday, Charles continued his impressive play with his third goal of the season as MSUB upset No. 24 Mesa State, 3-0 in the home opener. It was the Jackets’ 11th consecutive home victory dating back to 2006.
Mangeac scored three goals and an assist propelling Northwest Nazarene to a 2-0-1 record. Mangeac had the game winning goal in a 5-0 shutout of Cascade and earned an assist on the game winning goal in a 2-1 victory over George Fox. The Crusaders (4-0-1) are a first year program in men’s soccer.
Mangeac leads the league in points with 10, while Charles is the leading in points per game at 2.67.
The Yellowjackets (2-1) continue at home Monday with a regional game against the University of Mary at 1 p.m. at the MSUB Soccer Field.
