MSUB Blanks Jamestown, 4-0

Box Score

BISMARCK, ND – The Montana State Billings men’s soccer team posted a 4-0 neutral site victory over Jamestown College Friday afternoon at the University of Mary.  With the victory, the Jackets improve to 8-4 on the year, while the Jimmies fall to 1-11-1.

“The guys did a good job today,” head coach Dan McNally said.  “We played well and created a lot of opportunities.”

In the 19th minute, Sam Charles took a pass from Jurell Linford on the right side for a sliding shot past Jamestown goalkeeper Jordan Gengler for the score and a 1-0 lead.  It was Charles’ Great Northwest Athletic Conference-leading 14th goal of the season and his sixth game winner.  It was Charles’ first of two goals on the day.

Just before the half, Jarred Weisen, who has had three impressive games against Jamestown in the past two years, scored his first of two goals on the day as he took a through ball from Charles and split defenders for the score and a 2-0 lead.  Weisen has scored six goals and three assists in three games against Jamestown dating back to last season.

The Jackets held a 2-0 lead at halftime and were in complete control of the game – out-shooting the Jimmies 12-3 in the opening half.  MSUB had two corner kicks in the first half and two saves by Matt Mitchell.

Just over 11 minutes into the second half, Charles and Scott Dixon hooked up for a score for the third time this season.  At the 56:50 mark, Charles took a through ball from Dixon for a 3-0 lead.  It was Charles’ 15 goal of the year and Dixon broke the school record for assists in a career with his 15th dish.  Dixon broke Thomas Pertuit’s record of 14 set in 2004.

“I am very proud of Scott Dixon to have his 15th career assist before the end of his sophomore year,” McNally said.  “He is an excellent player and he will continue to get better.”

Later in the half, Weisen added his second goal of the game off an assist from Kyle Moriarty for a 4-0 lead.  MSUB out-shot the Jimmies 21-8 for the game and 11-4 in shots on goal.  Mitchell had four saves for the game in 68 minutes.  Sander Tollefson finished the final 21 minutes for the Jackets.

Charles led the team with seven shots and four on goal with two scores and an assist.  Dixon had four shots with two on goal and the assist.

The Jackets now play at the University of Mary Sunday at 11 a.m. central time.  The game will be webcast on www.northernsun.tv for free with live audio and video.
