Yellowjackets 15th After Two Rounds of Hanny Stanislaus Invitational

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Montana State Billings men’s golf team stands in 15th after two rounds of the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, hosted by Cal State Stanislaus.  The Yellowjackets fired rounds of 317 and 320 on the par 72, 6641-yard Tulock Golf and Country Club course Monday.  Cal State Stanislaus leads the tournament after a second round 279 overtaking Western Washington, Sonoma State and Cal State-San Bernardino for a 573 36-hole score.

Following CSU-Stanislaus is Sonoma State (579), Western Washington (582), California Baptist (585) and Cal State-San Bernardino (587) to round out the top five.  Saint Martin’s is sixth with a 600 score and Northwest Nazarene is 12th with a 629 score.  MSUB is 15th of 16 teams with a 637 score.

MSUB is led by Jeff Allen who is tied for 44th with a 156 score.  Allen began the tournament with a 4-over 76, but carded an 8-over 80 in the second round.  Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week, Travis Gates, also carded a 76 to open the tournament, followed by an 82 for a 158 score and currently is tied for 52nd. 

Jake Harr fired a 161 score (82 – 79, T-60), followed by Jeff Dalton who was one stroke behind Harr (83 – 79, T-64) and Chris Richter who carded rounds of 84 and 85 for a 169 score and is tied for 76th.

Individually, Teddy Schrier of Stanislaus leads the way with a 5-under 139.  Schrier carded an opening round of 68 which was the best round of the day, followed by a 71.  Three players are tied for second, including WWU’s Jake Koppenberg and Saint Martin’s Justin Lanman as well as California Baptist’s Ivan Fuganti with a 3-under 141. 

The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the final 18 holes.
