Yellowjackets Complete 36 Holes of Elco Inc., Intercollegiate

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Montana State Billings men’s golf team opened the 2009 spring season with a 630 through the first two rounds of the Elco Inc., Intercollegiate hosted by Cal State Bakersfield Monday. The Yellowjackets head into tomorrow’s final round in 18th place in the 19-team field.
Nova Southeastern University leads the way with a 561 team score which is 15-under par, followed by Sonoma State at 570 and Northeastern State (Okla.) at 575 to round out the top three teams. Great Northwest Athletic Conference member, Western Washington, was fourth at 576, followed by Chico State at 578. Saint Martin’s was 12th at 589.
Claremont Mudd-Scripps’, Tarin Lee, leads the way individually with a 10-under 134 after he carded rounds of 65 and 69. Nova Southeastern’s Greg O’Mahony is second at 9-under (135) as 22 players are under par through two rounds.
The Yellowjackets were led by Jeff Allen who tallied the two lowest rounds of the day with a 155 score for 11-over. He shot a 78 in the first round, followed by a 77 for the second. Travis Gates headed into the clubhouse at 14-over after carding a pair of 79’s for a 158, 36-hole score. Mike Watson also shot a 158 with an 80 and a 78. Michael Konrad was one stroke behind Gates and Watson with a 159 score, followed by Jacob Harr at 166.
The 100-player field on the par 72, 7,100 yard Seven Oaks Country Club course, will play the final 18 holes tomorrow to conclude the tournament.
