Yellowjacket Links Finish 15th at Hanny Stanislaus Invitational

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Montana State Billings men’s golf team finished 15th at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational Tuesday after shooting a third round team score of 331 for a 54-hole total of 968.  Host Cal State Stanislaus won the tournament with a 54-hole total of 882.  Cal State San Bernardino jumped from fifth to second after carding a round-best team score of 298 for an 885 score.

Two Great Northwest Athletic Conference schools finished in the top five as Western Washington finished third (891), followed by Sonoma State (893) and Saint Martin’s (911) to round out the top five.  Northwest Nazarene finished 12th with a 952 team score. 

Individually, WWU’s Jake Koppenberg took home medalist honors with a 3-under 213.  Teammate Thomas Jun, Cal State Stanislaus’ Teddy Schrier and SMU’s Justin Lanman all finished tied for second with a 216 score which was good for par. 

As a whole, the scores were up Tuesday as only seven of 80 golfers had rounds of 74 or better.  Only Cal State San Bernardino had a team round Tuesday below 300.

MSUB’s Travis Gates led the way for the Yellowjackets with a 238 score and tied for 46th.  Jeff Allen tied for 48th with a 239 score, while Jeff Dalton carded a 245 score and tied for 61st.  Jake Harr was one stroke back and tied for 65th with a 246 score, while Chris Richter finished tied for 76th with a 254 score.

The Yellowjackets now return home to prepare for the GNAC Championships, Apr. 20-21 in Spokane, Wash.
