Gates Named GNAC Player of the Week
SPOKANE, Wash. – Montana State Billings men’s golf sophomore, Travis Gates, was named Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Week for his efforts last week as the Yellowjackets finished third at the Bob Writz Invitational hosted by Colorado School of Mines, the conference office announced Monday.
Gates, a Billings native, fired rounds of 70 and 76 in the tournament and finished fourth in the tournament. Gates’ 70 was the lowest round of the spring season. He had a 68 during the fall at the Rocky Mountain Invitational. He leads the team in scoring with a 75.5 average which ranks him eighth in the GNAC.
This is the second conference Player of the Week honor for the Yellowjackets this season as Jake Harr earned the weekly honor, Oct. 7, 2008, for his efforts at the Rocky Mountain Invitational.
The Yellowjackets are at the Hanny Stanislaus Invitational in Stanislaus, Calif., Monday and Tuesday, and then will return home to prepare for the GNAC Championship, Apr. 20-21 in Spokane, Wash.
