Yellowjacket Men’s Basketball Signs Miles City Product

BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings head men’s basketball coach, George Pfeifer, announced his first signing for the 2009-2010 season as Tyrone Williams of Miles City Community College signed during the early signing period.

“We are very excited and very fortunate to have Tyrone choose to become a Yellowjacket,” Pfeifer said. “He impacts the game in so many ways as he is a tremendous teammate and is unselfish to a fault. Second, he very athletic, can fill a stat sheet and he can score facing and next to the rim. He seeks out rebounds, defends and is a very good passer. He plays hard which in its self is a coveted talent. He is a very powerful component to our next recruiting class.”

Williams, a native of Houston, Texas, is a 6-6, sophomore forward at MCCC.  As a freshman at Miles City, Williams scored 10.8 points per game, grabbed 8.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 57.2 percent from the field.  Three weeks ago, Williams was named first team at the Mon-Dak Tip-Off Tournament.

He graduated in 2007 from Alief Elisk High School in Houston where he collected a number of accolades.  As a sophomore, he was named Most Valuable Player of the Outback Texas Tournament an award bestowed to University of Texas All-American TJ Ford.  Williams was a two time all-state selection, three time all-district performer and was named Newcomer of the Year in 2005.

Williams helped lead Elisk High School to an 18-0 regular season record during his junior year and a second place finish at the Texas 5A State Championship.  During his senior year, he averaged 15.2 points, 7.9 rebounds and shot 63 percent from the field.

Williams is the only early signee for the Yellowjackets.

The Yellowjackets close out a two game home stand Wednesday against the University of Mary at 7 p.m. at Alterowitz Gymnasium.
