NBA Veteran Spud Webb Spends Time at MSUB
BILLINGS, Mont. – 12-year NBA phenomenon, Spud Webb, who stands a 5-7, was on the Montana State Billings campus Sept. 11, to meet with some of the Yellowjacket men’s basketball players.
“It was an honor to have Spud Webb come by and shre his life experiences with members of our program,” head coach George Pfeifer said. “What he was able to with his life and what he able to accomplish is truly inspiring. It was a special moment for myself and I am sure for others, as well.”
MSUB assistant coach, Justin Wetzel, using his past professional experiences asked if Webb could come by the Yellowjacket men’s basketball program. The night before, Webb was the key note speaker for the Special Olympics Dinner downtown.
Webb played college basketball for the late Jimmy Valvano at North Carolina State. In 1986, Webb used his 42-inch vertical to capture the NBA Slam Dunk Championship.
Webb went on to the NBA where he was drafted in the fourth round of the 1985 draft by the Detroit Pistons. He spent his first six years with the Atlanta Hawks, followed by stints with the Sacramento Kings, Minnesota Timberwolves and finished his career with the Orlando Magic in 1998.
Webb was the third shortest player in NBA history. Only Earl Boykins and Muggsy Bogues were shorter.
