Point Guard Mario Burns Commits to Yellowjackets
BILLINGS, Mont. – Montana State Billings head men’s basketball coach, George Pfeifer, announced Thursday that Mario Burns has committed to play for the Yellowjackets this season.
“Mario gives us one of the quickest guys on the court night in and night out,” Pfeifer said. “He is older so we need him to utilize his past experiences and basketball successes with this year’s program.”
Burns graduated from Mojave High School in Las Vegas, Nev., in 2000 and is a 6-0 point guard. He played his first year of junior college at Feather River Junior College in Quincy, Calif., in 2004-05. There, he averaged 15.2 points and 6.2 assists per game. He was named to the Golden West Conference All-Defensive team and was a Golden West all-conference selection.
Burns then transferred to Western Oklahoma State College in Altus, Okla., for the 2006-07 season where he continued his impressive play. Burns averaged 13.8 points and 7.6 assists per game for a team that went 21-10 after winning just six games the previous season. Burns also torched the nets as he shot 48 percent from the field.
