YAKIMA, Wash. – Nine was the number of the day as Montana State Billings finished in ninth in both races at the GNAC Cross Country Championships, Saturday afternoon. The men scored 276 points in the 8K race while the women scored 253 points in the 6K race. The Yellowjackets are off until Saturday, Nov. 8, when they travel to LaJolla, Calif., to compete in the NCAA West Regional Championships.
For the men, Alaska Anchorage went 1-2-3 to score 34 points to end Western Washington’s two year run on top. The Vikings scored 53 points followed by Western Oregon (3rd – 78), Saint Martin’s (4th – 98), Seattle Pacific (5th – 119), Northwest Nazarene (T6th – 183), Alaska Fairbanks (T6th – 183) and Central Washington (8th – 213).
For the Yellowjackets, Travis Hutchinson was the top finisher running 29:20 to finish in 51st place. He was followed by Taylor Canfield (54th – 29:48), Kelley Miller (55th – 30:31), Michael Hildebrand (56th – 31:29) and James Hopkins (60th – 33:18).
For the women, Seattle Pacific edged Alaska Anchorage, 48-52 for their third straight title and fifth in the last six years. They were followed by Western Washington (3rd – 75), Western Oregon (4th – 111), Northwest Nazarene (5th – 123), Alaska Fairbanks (6th – 158), Saint Martin’s (7th – 179) and Central Washington (8th – 218).
For MSUB, Sarah Jackson ran 24:49.15 to finish in 42nd place. Her time was one of the 15 fastest for a 6K course in school history. Rounding out the scoring was Dianna Stanley (48th – 25:40.58), Mykel Ler (52nd – 26:17.96), Cierra Dornfeld (54th – 26:32.67) and Katie Thiel (57th – 27:10.77).
