Game 1
Game 2
PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Montana State Billings baseball team split a twinbill with the University of Mary Sunday afternoon as the Yellowjackets won the opener, 10-5 and Mary won the nightcap, 4-2. MSUB now stands at 5-9 on the year, while Mary is 2-7.
In game one, Montana State Billings had a slim one run lead, 4-3 after five innings. The Yellowjackets gave themselves some breathing room, scoring four runs in the sixth and two in the seventh. At the plate, Nick Harris went 2-for-4, scored a run, drove in a run and had a double. Stefan Malkuch went 2-for-3, scored a run, drove in three runs and had a double and triple.
Ryan Skillern had two hits and drove in three runs while Matt Schoonover was 2-for-3, drove in a run and scored two runs. On the mound, Cody Clark (1-1) gave up three runs in six innings to pick up the win.
In the second game, MSUB mounted a comeback attempt scoring two runs in the top of the seventh before the inning ended. The Jackets had eight hits led by Cole Pryor who had two. Brian Dukart and Levi Johnson scored the runs for MSUB. On the mound, Nate Kolata (0-1) gave up just one run in four innings of work to take the loss.
"I saw some good things out there today," said head coach Chris Brown. "I thought that Cody and Nate threw well for us. In the opening game, we hit the ball well late in the game. We just need to go out tomorrow with the same focus we had in game one."
The teams will conclude their four game series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m., at the Gene Autry Complex in Mesa, Ariz. MSUB then will travel to Nampa, Idaho, for the first Great Northwest Athletic Conference series of the year versus Northwest Nazarene, Mar. 6-7, before returning to Billings.
