Baseball Lands Three on GNAC Academic All-Conference Team

SPOKANE, Wash. – Montana State Billings baseball players Matt Schoonover, Levi Johnson and Steve Scott have been named to the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Baseball Academic all-conference team, announced by the conference office.

Schoonover, a junior from Great Falls, Mont., carries a 3.48 GPA in health and human performance.  This is his second selection to the team. 

Johnson, a senior also from Great Falls, carries a 3.22 GPA in math education, while Scott, a senior and a native of Billings, carries a 3.26 GPA in business administration.

MSUB tied for the second-most named to the 16-member team.  Saint Martin’s had four selections and had the best GPA in the conference with a perfect 4.0 from sophomore Blaine Evans.  Central Washington also had three selections, while Western Oregon and Northwest Nazarene each had two. 

To be eligible for selection a student-athlete must be in their second year of competition at their university and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20.

Sixteen Named To Baseball Academic Team

SPOKANE, Wash.  - A total of  16  student-athletes  have been named to the 2009 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Baseball Academic all-conference team.

Blaine Evans, a sophomore outfielder from Saint Martin’s,  head ups the academic all-star team with a perfect 4.00 GPA.  Kevin Walkenhauer of Central Washington has the second highest GPA among the all-stars with a 3.86 average.

Six players were repeaters from last year include Shane Schoeneberg of Saint Martin’s who was selected for the third time.  Other repeaters include Walkenhauer, Matt Schoonover of Montana State Billings, Jared Joffer of Northwest Nazarene, Kevin Jones of Saint Martin’s and Mike Eisenhauer of Western Oregon.

All letter winners who are in at least their second year of competition at their university and have a
minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20 are eligible to be selected to the team.
