Joshua McGee
Assistant Coach
Men's Basketball

Joshua McGee begins his first year season as assistant coach at Montana State University Billings. McGee comes to MSUB from Western Oklahoma State College, where he was an assistant for head coach Rolando De La Barrera since 2006. McGee’s strong recruiting ties have already benefited the Yellowjackets rebuilding efforts this season.

As the top assistant at Western Oklahoma State College, McGee was instrumental in helping lead one of the biggest turnarounds in the NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) in 2006-2007 as Western Oklahoma State College was 6-24 in 2005-2006 and improved to 21-11 in McGee’s first year with skipper De La Barrera. Western also opened the 2006-2007 season stunning preseason #1 Midland College in Midland, TX. Midland College eventually went on to win the 2007 NJCAA National Championship. While at Western Oklahoma State College, McGee has coached three nationally ranked players, including current Yellowjacket Derrick Wright #196 by Jucojunction.com and NJCAA All-American Reggie Huffman. In his two years at Western Oklahoma State College the Pioneers have qualified for the Bi-State Region tournament back to back years.

Prior to 2006, McGee was the assistant coach at Macarthur High School in Lawton, OK where he helped the program reach a 37-15 record in two seasons. The team earned a #2 ranking in Oklahoma 5A and later reached the Elite Eight in 2005. While at Macarthur High School McGee has helped produce three All-State players for the Highlanders.

Since 2000, McGee has been the director and founder of the Oklahoma Lions Basketball program. During his tenure, McGee has run one of the most successful youth programs in Southern Oklahoma and the team has amassed over 350 wins and won numerous tournaments. In addition, 23 Oklahoma Lions have went on to play collegiate basketball.

McGee earned his bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Cameron University in Lawton, OK and is currently finishing his master’s degree in secondary sports administration from East Central University in Ada, OK this spring.

A native of Riverside, CA he is married to Latonya McGee who holds a bachelors degree in Broadcast Journalism and most recently worked as a Special Education teacher for Lawton Public Schools in Lawton, OK they have an infant son Joshua Blake McGee and reside in Billings.
