MSUB Softball Going to Second Fall Tourney

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings softball team will travel to Fort Collins, Colo., this weekend to participate in the Triple Crown Fall Classic.  The tournament will run Saturday and Sunday.  The Yellowjackets are slated to take on Colorado State, Utah State, Northern Colorado, Metro State, Colorado Mines, and Western Nebraska Community College.  No games played during the fall non-championship season count for won/loss records or statistics.

The Yellowjackets played five games in Regina, Saskatchewan, last weekend.  They won all five games, outscoring their opponents 57-14.

MSUB scored eight runs in the first inning to defeat University of Calgary 14-0 in the opener.  Terina Stacks (Washougal, Wash.) and Rebekah Tsatsa (Eagle, Idaho) combined for the shutout.  Stacks also went 4-for-4 at the plate and stole two bases.  Freshman catcher Kelly Parsons (Seattle) homered.

The Jackets then defeated Mount Royal College in back to back games, winning 10-4 and 19-2.  Lindsey Trenary (Helena) struck out 11 in winning the first game.  Steph Gosselin was 3-for-4 with two home runs and a double.  In the second game, eight different Yellowjackets scored multiple runs.  Stephanie Rinehart (Gig Harbor, Wash.) went 4-for-4 and scored four times.  Tsatsa picked up the win.

The Jackets’ fourth game was a 5-3 decision over University of Regina.  Lisa Moore (Bakersfield, Calif.) went the distance to earn the win, allowing three runs on seven hits and striking out three.  Stacks went 4-for-4 from the leadoff spot, and Jessica Frank (Great Falls) homered.

In the tournament finale, MSUB downed Calgary 9-5.  Trenary picked up the win, pitching five solid innings.  Stacks, last year’s batting champion in the Heartland Conference, was 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored.  Tsatsa went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
