MSUB Soccer Teams Ranked by NSCAA

BILLINGS, Mont. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released its sixth weekly national and regional rankings on Tuesday.  The Montana State Billings men’s soccer team is ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Far West Region while the MSUB women are ranked eighth in the region.  The NSCAA releases its polls each Tuesday.

The NSCAA produces both national and regional polls for publicity purposes only.  The regional rankings by the coaches do not have bearing on who qualifies for NCAA postseason play.  The NCAA regional advisory committees use a strength of schedule formula to determine official regional rankings and regional seeding for the NCAA Tournament.

The men’s soccer RAC is scheduled to release polls on Oct. 9, Oct. 16, Oct. 23, and Oct. 30 with the tournament pairings announced on Nov. 5.  The women’s soccer RAC is scheduled to release polls on Oct. 10, Oct. 17, Oct. 24, and Oct. 31 with tournament pairings announced on Nov. 5.  The top six teams in each of NCAA Division II’s eight regions qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

The Yellowjacket men had a 7-1-1 overall record for the NSCAA ranking period that ended Sept. 23.  Their 1-0 double overtime loss at Seattle University on Monday was not factored into the rankings.  Unbeaten Seattle Pacific is the top-ranked team in the Far West and the No. 6 team in the nation.  Seattle University is ranked second in the region and 13th in the nation.  Western Washington is the fourth GNAC team ranked in the regional poll, coming in at No. 7.

The Yellowjacket women are 5-3-1 overall.  The Lady Jackets tied Western Washington and lost to Central Washington last week.  MSUB is one of four Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams ranked in the region.  Seattle Pacific tops the poll, followed by Seattle University at No. 2 and Western Washington at No. 4.  SPU and SU are ranked third and 15th respectively in the national poll.

The MSUB men’s team steps out of GNAC play this weekend when they host Colorado Christian (0-9-0) on Saturday.  The Lady Jackets have a big GNAC road trip upcoming, playing at Seattle Pacific on Thursday and at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.
