Lady Jacket Soccer Announces Team Awards

BILLINGS, Mont. – The Montana State Billings women’s soccer team has announced its end-of-season awards for members of the 2007 squad.  Team members voted on four of the five categories based on who best represents each honor.

Freshman midfielder Kari Foreman (Lakewood, Colo.) was named Newcomer of Year.  This award is given to the top incoming player of the fall season.  Foreman played in all 20 games, starting 16 as a true freshman.  The midfielder finished the season with four goals and one assist for nine points.  Foreman scored the game-winning goal in a 3-1 win over Regis University early in the season.

Danielle Ritter, a sophomore defender from Great Falls, Mont. was named the Yellowjackets’ Next Level player.  The honor is given to the returning player who took their game to the next level from the previous season.  Ritter played in and started all 20 games and was the Lady Jackets’ third top scorer netting five goals.  Ritter contributed two assists for a season total 12 points and scored two game-winning goals for MSUB. 

Brittney Sandau, a senior forward from Billings was named the team’s Most Valuable Player.  Sandau suffered a season-ending injury on October 6th finishing the season with six goals and three assists for 15 points.  Sandau played in a started 13 games this season and scored two game-winning goals.  Following her four-year career as a Lady Yellowjacket, Sandau ranks second in school history for career points (76), fourth for career goals (27), second for career assists (22), and second for career starts (69) and games played (70). 

The Quest for Excellence award was handed to junior midfielder Melissa Carlson (Renton, Wash.).  This award is the most prestigious in the Lady Yellowjackets’ program and is awarded to the player who demonstrates teamwork, hard work, dedication, discipline, and passion to the team.  Carlson played in all 20 games, starting 17 for MSUB and posted three assists on the season for three points.

Carlson was also honored as the Yellowjackets’ Scholar-Athlete.  Carlson’s 3.90 cumulative grade point average was the highest in the women’s soccer program earning her the award.
