Lehman Tabbed RMAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year; Peach Named Coach of the Year

     Complete Team

KEARNEY, Neb. – The Montana State Billings women’s tennis team took home some hardware before the conference championship even began as senior Heidi Lehman was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women’s tennis Player of the Year and head coach Jerry Peach was tabbed women’s Coach of the Year.  In addition, four Yellowajackets made the all-conference team, including three on the first team.

Lehman, a senior from Billings, was named the first team at the number one position.  She finished the regular season with an 8-5 record in singles and a perfect 6-0 record in league play. Junior Anne-Sophie Tredet also earned first team honors at the number two position.  Tredet compiled a 9-4 record overall and also went undefeated in conference play at 6-0.  Victoria Fernandez, a junior, also earned first team honors at the number five slot.  She had a 6-6 record overall and a 5-0 mark in conference play.

Conference preseason Player of the Year, Teri Mayeda of Mesa State was named to the second team at the number one position and so was MSUB’s Marta Borges at the number three slot.  Borges, a senior, had a 3-9 record overall, but played well in conference play with a 3-2 record.

The top-seeded Yellowjackets begin the conference tournament against the fourth-seeded host Nebraska-Kearney tomorrow at 1 p.m. as the match was pushed back due to inclement weather in Kearney.  The Yellowjackets defeated UNK 8-1 earlier in the year.  The winner will advance to Sunday’s championship match against the winner of Mesa State vs. Western New Mexico with the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on the line.
