Two Lady Jackets Named Player of the Week (9/5/06)

BILLINGS, MT – The Montana State-Billings women’s soccer team continues to have good things shine upon them.  Brittney Sandau and Samantha Boehm were named as Heartland Conference Player’s of the Week for the week of August 28-September 3.  This marks the second week in a row that the Lady Jackets have garnered honors for both the offensive and defensive award.

Brittney Sandau, a junior forward from Billings was named the offensive player of the week.  Sandau scored three goals and had four assists to help lead the Jackets to a pair of wins.  On Saturday, she set a number of school records in an 11-0 win against Texas-Permian Basin.  Sandau had three goals and three assists for a school record nine points.  Her hat trick was just the fourth in the program’s history.  She scored the first two goals of the game just 30 seconds apart from each other, also a school record.  On Sunday Saudau assisted on the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over University of Mary.  For the season Saudau has four goals, and six assists for 14 points.

Samantha Boehm, a freshman defender from Wilsonville, Oregon anchored a Montana State-Billings defense that allowed just two shots on goal in a pair of shutout wins.  In Saturday’s 11-0 win against Texas-Permian Basin, the Yellowjacket defense allowed just one total shot without a shot on goal.  On Sunday the Jackets gave up only two shots on goal in a 2-0 win against University of Mary.  With their third and fourth shutouts of the season, the Yellowjacket defense propelled MSU Billings to a 5-0-0 record, the best five-game start to a season in the program’s 11 year history.  The Yellowjackets’ team GAA is 0.20.

The Yellowjackets head to Texas for a three-game road trip starting with St. Mary’s University (1-0-1) on September 9.  The Jackets then play at Texas A&M-International (0-1-0) September 10 followed by University of the Incarnate Word (3-0-1) September 12.
