Lady Jacket Golf Nineteenth (3/26/07)

GOODYEAR, AZ – The Montana State-Billings women’s golf team stands nineteenth following the first 18-holes of play at the Grand Canyon Invitational hosted by Grand Canyon University.  The teams will wrap up play Tuesday at the par-72, 5,940 yard Palm Valley Golf Course.

Tarleton State has a six-stroke lead in the team competition over second place Western New Mexico University following round one.  Tarleton shot a combined 299 while the Mustangs carded a first round total 305.  One-stroke back and in third place is Cal State-Monterey Bay who is at 306 after round one.  Host team Grand Canyon University shot to a first round 328 to stand in fourteenth.  The Yellowjackets nearly shot their best round of the season with a combined 355.

Catherine Kim of Western Washington stands atop the individual leader board with a round one two-under par 70.  Two-strokes off the lead is Shraddhanjali Singh from Tarleton State carding an even round 72.  Jessica McKay representing the host team Grand Canyon is tied with Singh for second place following her round of 72.

The Yellowjackets’ Amy Nordeen (Hamilton, MT) leads MSUB and is in a tie for sixty-third place shooting a first round 82.  Emily Maag (Colstrip, MT) is tied for sixty-ninth with a 13-over par 85.
