Jackets Complete Play at Poor Boy Invitational (2/27/07)
Final Results

BAKERSFIELD, CA- The final 18-holes of play saw the Montana State-Billings men’s golf team place sixteenth with a three-round total 933 at the Poor Boy Invitational held in Bakersfield, California Tuesday.

The 7,008 yard Seven Oaks Country Club allowed just one team to shoot under par for the competition.  That honor belongs to UCLA who carded a first round record 271, followed by a 280 and 288 for a 25-under 839 and the win.  The host team Cal State-Bakersfield held on for the four-stroke win over third place.  The Roadrunners shot rounds of 287, 282, and 298 for 867.  Sonoma State climbed two spots with rounds of 281, 293, and 297 to take home third place.  Cal State-San Bernardino was third following 36-holes of play, but slid out of medalist position with a final round 304 to seventh.

Lucas Lee continued to be steady carding rounds of 65, 67, and 70 for a 14-under par total of 202 to bring the crown home for UCLA.  Brady Baguio of Cal State-Bakersfield and Kyle Hopkins representing Sonoma State finished in a tie for second with a two-under par final round for a 206.  Cal Stanislaus’s Eric Justensen slid from second to fourth with a final round one-over par 73 for a combined 207.  The Jackets’ Zach Abels (Twin Falls, ID) carded rounds of 76, 70, and 78 for an eight-over 224 and forty-fourth place.

The Yellowjackets will have nearly a month’s hiatus before returning to Bakersfield, California March 26 to play part two of the Poor Boy Invitational.  The Jackets are gearing up for the Heartland Conference Tournament April 15-17 that will be held in Irving, Texas.
