BILLINGS, MT –Seth Moir drove in four RBIs and Jeremy Knowles pitched a complete game to give Montana State-Billings a Heartland Conference split against Incarnate Word on Friday.  The Cardinals won the first game 7-2, and the Jackets rebounded with a 7-2 win in the late game.

With the split, the Yellowjackets remained two games below .500 at 21-23.  They are 13-17 in Heartland Conference play.  The Cardinals are now 29-20 overall and 18-16 in the league.  The same teams will meet for two games on Saturday at Cobb Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00.  Yellowjacket baseball alumni will be honored before the game.

After dropping the first game Friday, the Yellowjackets went on the offensive in game two.  They jumped ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first when Nick Hoskyn (Oelwein, IA) homered to drive in Doug Longfellow (Lewistown, MT).  It was Hoskyn’s second home run of the season.

The Cardinals tied the game with two runs in the top of the second when an MSUB error extended the inning.  The Jackets answered in the third with Kyle Pryor (Billings, MT) driving in Jake Samuelson (Helena, MT) for what was eventually the winning run.  The Jackets added two insurance runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to win going away.

Moir (Cody, WY) drove in all of the Jackets’ final four runs.  In the fifth inning he blasted his second home run of the season over the right field wall, scoring Hoskyn.  In the sixth Moir slapped a bases loaded double down the left field line to plate Longfellow and Pryor.  Moir was 2-for-4 with four RBIs.  Pryor and Pat Smith (Flagstaff, AZ) each went 2-for-3, and Pryor and Hoskyn scored twice apiece.

Knowles (Three Forks, MT) recovered from his two-run second inning and went the distance for his first win of the season.  He allowed five hits in seven innings, striking out two without a walk.  Jerry Anderson (3-6) took the loss for UIW.  Chris Mojica was 1-for-3 with a double for the Cards.

In the early game, the Cardinals broke open a close game with two runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings.  Yellowjacket starter Kyle McBride (Billings, MT) went 4 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and five runs.  Two of the runs were unearned.  McBride (2-5) gave way to Steve Scott (Billings, MT), who gave up three hits and two earned runs in two innings of work.  Bobby Henderson (Frenchtown, MT) came in with two outs and two on in the seventh, striking out the only batter he faced to end the threat.

The Jackets’ only runs of the game came in the bottom of the fifth.  After Samuelson hit a one out single through the right side, Smith hit his third home run of the season.  Moir and Longfellow each had a pair of hits in the game.

Adam Rimlinger went the distance on the mound for the Cardinals, improving to 5-3.  He scattered seven hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking one.  Chris Solis and Drew Hamilton each had two hits.  Solis had a double and a triple and scored twice.  Hamilton drove in three runs.
