MSUB Soccer Inks SD All-Star (July 6, 2005)

BILLINGS, MT – Montana State-Billings men’s soccer coach Dan McNally announced Wednesday that Shane Kono of Aberdeen, SD has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Yellowjackets next season.  Kono was a two-time all-state player at Aberdeen Central High School.

A 2005 graduate of ACHS, Kono lettered three years in soccer and four years in hockey.  The 5-foot-11, 160-pound forward scored 48 goals with 13 assists in 46 career soccer games.  He found the net 20 times as a junior when he led Aberdeen Central to the 2003 state title.  Kono scored 16 goals as a senior, leading the Golden Eagles to a third place finish at the state tournament.

Kono was a team captain as a junior and a senior.  He earned first team all-state honors both seasons.  During Kono’s three seasons, Aberdeen Central was 28-15-3 overall.

The Yellowjackets begin fall practice August 8.  They will play a home exhibition game against North Idaho College on August 20 before opening the regular season on August 26 at Metropolitan State in Denver.
